I am sure the Phillies want the ALCS to go 7 games and not face CC 3 times if the Yankees do pull this out.

Nothing would make me happier than the Phils beating the Yankees in the World Series.

The Phillies' payroll is bigger than the Twins' also, so there's no reason to feel a kinship with them.

Come to think of it, the local McDonald's has a bigger payroll than the Twins.

always about payroll, isn't it?

i'm glad the yankees have as high as payroll as they do. It's proportional to the market and the revenue they are bringing in. I'd probably be angry if they didn't spend that much, as it would show that Steinbrenner is pocketing a shit ton of money off the team (even moreso than he is now) and not investing a fair amount in the product on the field. i know that you're going to bring it up, so i'll address it now. while there's no doubt that the twins have been historically cheap, you have to again consider their market size in comparison to other teams. pohlad may have been the richest owner in baseball when he was still alive, but he's not bringing in NEARLY the amount of revenue that teams with their own stadiums bring in. the vikings got 100% of the profits from the concessions, the skyboxes, and a number of other features that really made the twins get screwed over in the long run in the deal. spending large amounts of your own money is good, but if you're not either doing well in the business that made you rich or making profits from the team you own, being an owner is cost-prohibitive. the new stadium will no doubt see a rise in the bottom line of the pohlads, and they've promised to raise the payroll as well. there's really no reason why a team that drafts as well as the twins do and has about a league-average payroll can't compete on a regular basis.

i've never hated a particular team. it's just laundry, as someone once said. the players i've got no problem with either, as they're just out there to be famous along with fucking bitches and getting money. that's how it's always been and always will. however, the general douchebaggery of the yankees fans is what annoys me. i know it doesn't apply for most of you level-headed yankee fans on here, but the reactionary types who are never content with anything and always looking for the next quick-fix to a non-existent problem (see, the Girardi situation) irritate the hell out of me. each team has these, no doubt, but because there's more fans of the yankees than of any other team (bandwagons fans. god i hate them), they're the loudest, get the most press, and seem the most irrational.

See, the Yanks might make you happy after all. I certainly hope not, but they might.

Now here's a fan...

'Desperate' Phillies fan arrested for offering sex in exchange for World Series tickets
By Carrie Melago
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

A "desperate" Philadelphia Phillies fan was arrested for offering to exchange sex for tickets to see her beloved team play the Yankees, investigators said.

Susan Finkelstein, 43, allegedly posted a pleading ad on Craigslist saying she needed two tickets to baseball's biggest game.

"DESPERATE BLONDE NEEDS WS TIX!" the ad was headlined, according to WPVI TV.

"Diehard Phillies fan -- gorgeous tall buxom blonde -- in desperate need of two World Series Tickets," she allegedly wrote.

Describing the price as "negotiable," she ended the ad flirtatiously: "I'm the creative type! Maybe we can help each other!"

Investigators stumbled on the ad, and an undercover officer set up a meeting, during which Finkelstein offered to perform sex acts for seats to the game.

"She was willing to do anything, she said," Bucks County public safety director Fred Harran told KYW Newsradio. "And she told the officers that she would engage in sexual activity with two individuals for two tickets."

Finkelstein is charged with prostitution and related offenses.

Oh, don't worry, Rendell will figure out a way to make all of the state's taxpayers foot the bill. He's good at that.
