A gun settles an argument much faster than words, often without having to fire it!
Your argument is reminiscent of Britain's Neville Chamberlain believing he had prevented an attack on England by Hitler's Nazi Germany. Words in the long run meant diddly. It is also reminiscent of our own state department believing a peaceful agreement had been reached with the Japanese in the days before Pearl Harbor. Words alone just don't get the job done.

Instead, it is comparatively easy to simply unholster, try to get a good shot, and take it. Big and bad really don't come into play here. Besides, if you think that standing there doing nothing while your friends are getting shot to death is "big" OR "bad", then you've got more problems than I do.
That's the beauty of personal protection- anybody can do it, whether you're a twentysomthing commando, or a retired math teacher with high cholesterol and a physique like the Michelin Man. Or anything in between.
